Gutter FAQs

gutter Faqs in Charlotte & Mooresville, NC

As a homeowner, you probably don't pay much attention on a daily basis to your gutter system. But you should! They are vital components of your roofing system. We have compiled a list of the most frequently asked questions when it comes to gutter systems. We hope you find them helpful.

Gutters become clogged over time with leaves, acorns and twigs which can lead to expensive and dangerous home repairs. Rainwater that washes over your gutters will accumulate in pools around your foundation and exterior walls, leading to leaky and cracked foundations or even flooded basements.

Common signs include:

  • Clogged or leaky gutters
  • Old worn-out gutters
  • Dents or rust
  • Sagging gutters
  • Replacement of your home's siding (you will want to make sure your new gutters match the new color of your home)

There are many signs your gutters aren't draining properly, such as:

  • During a rain storm, you can hear water slapping the ground or pouring over the sides of your gutters.
  • You notice peeling paint paint or corroded wood (this is a sign of clogged gutters).
  • You see mold or puddles of water forming around the outside of your house.

You should add a downspout about every 20 or 30 feet of gutter, but this will depend on the slope of your roof as well as the roofline. In general, you should have downspouts on each end of a gutter run.
